Peter Griffin is the main character of the animated television series Family Guy. He is the husband of Lois, and the father of Meg,Chris, and Stewie. He is voiced by the show’s creator, Seth MacFarlane. Peter’s character has been compared to Archie Bunker.

Peter is a blue collar worker at the Happy-Go-Lucky Toy Factory as well as a fisherman. He was once a towel boy at Lois’ family’s country club where he first met his future wife and fell in love with her. Peter’s quirks include preferring Pauly Shore movies rather than classics like Citizen Kane, having a very low IQ score which rendered him mentally retarded, as well as being a huge Kiss fan. He is extremely jealous when it comes to his wife and will do all he can to prove his masculinity to her so that she will not fall in love with other men. As for his daughter Meg, he treats her quite disrespectfully and often teases her.  Peter is of Irish American descent and long thought that his father was Francis Griffin who was a Roman Catholic patriarch who is known for his sternness, but discovered that it was actually Mickey McFinnigan, who was known as the town’s drunkard. In one episode, he discovers that he was not born in Ireland or in the US, but in Mexico.

The character of Peter Griffin has appeared in other series such as The Simpsons, Robot Chicken, and South Park. He has also appeared in Subway advertisements as well as on the Late Show with Dasvid Letterman.

In the hit television show Family Guy, the characters are composed of witty and comical people who all meld together to create a wonderfully humorous TV series. The Family Guy characters are headed by the main character Peter Griffin who is an Irish American Catholic and a blue collar worker. With Peter is his wife Lois who is a piano teacher and a housewife. She comes from a wealthy family of socialites – the Pewterschmidts. Peter and Lois have three children – Meg, Chris, and Stewie. Meg is the unpopular daughter with low self esteem who is often teased by her father, Peter. Chris is the overweight and quite slow son who is like the younger version of Peter. Stewie is the youngest and most unique of the children, with his ability to speak fluently like an adult with an English accent and speaks mostly phrases that a villain would say. With the family is Brian, their pet dog, who is just like a human being – walking on two legs, drinking liquor, smoking cigarettes, and carrying conversations with the other Family Guy characters. Aside from the main characters of the series, there are also other recurring characters including their neighbors Glenn Quagmire, an airline pilot who is quite the sex maniac, Cleveland and Loretta Brown and their son Cleveland Jr who is quite the hyper young fellow. Other neighbors include Joe Swanson and his wife Connie, Mort, Muriel, and Neil Goldman, and Mayor Adam West, to name a few. Family Guy characters significantly increased in number after returning from cancellation after the first three seasons.
